Description

Synology RackStation RS3618xs 12-Bay NAS Server
The Synology RackStation RS3618xs is a powerful and scalable 12-bay NAS server designed to meet the demanding storage requirements of enterprises. It delivers excellent performance, flexible storage options, and robust data protection features, making it ideal for large-scale data management, virtualization environments, and high-availability business operations.

At its core, the RS3618xs is equipped with an Intel Xeon D-1521 quad-core processor, delivering clock speeds of up to 2.4 GHz, and comes with 8GB of DDR4 ECC RAM (expandable up to 64GB), ensuring both speed and data integrity. The ECC (Error-Correcting Code) memory helps prevent data corruption, a vital feature for businesses that rely on uninterrupted data accuracy and reliability.

The 12 drive bays support both 3.5″ and 2.5″ SATA hard drives and SSDs, allowing users to configure storage options according to their performance and capacity needs. This makes it versatile for a wide range of storage solutions, from high-capacity data archives to high-speed SSD-based workloads. For even larger storage requirements, the system can scale up to 36 drives with Synology’s RX1217 or RX1217RP expansion units.

The RS3618xs is built to handle enterprise workloads, offering support for multiple RAID configurations (RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, F1, and Synology Hybrid RAID), allowing businesses to tailor data protection and performance settings based on their specific requirements. In addition, AES-NI hardware encryption ensures that sensitive data is kept secure without sacrificing system performance.

For networking, the system is equipped with four Gigabit Ethernet ports, supporting Link Aggregation and network failover to maximize data throughput and provide redundancy in case of network issues. Users can further boost connectivity by installing optional 10GbE NICs, ensuring fast data transfers even in the most data-intensive environments.

The RS3618xs operates on Synology’s powerful DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, which provides an intuitive interface for managing storage, backing up data, and configuring network settings. DSM offers a range of business applications, including Virtual Machine Manager (for running virtual machines directly on the NAS), Snapshot Replication (for near-instantaneous backups), and Hyper Backup (for secure, offsite data backup).

The system also supports advanced iSCSI and NFS protocols, making it compatible with popular virtualization platforms like VMware, Windows Hyper-V, and Citrix, providing an enterprise-level virtual storage infrastructure.

Designed with high availability in mind, the RS3618xs supports Synology High Availability (SHA), allowing it to pair with another NAS to create a real-time backup, ensuring your data remains accessible even during system failures. Additionally, active-active failover configurations and dual power supplies offer increased redundancy and uptime.
